Have you heard of the Enneagram?
The Enneagram is a test that sorts people into 9 different categories– similar to personality type categories. But the categories are based on your deepest desires and fears. I am an Ennegram Type 7; Type 7 is called “The Enthuisast”.
I you know me— this is spot on. I am energetic, enthusiastic, and ready to take on the world. I have a positive, can-do attitude and I get really excited and vibe really well off of other high energy people.
Some of the other characteristic of 7’s include: being involved in a variety of different projects, quick to learn new skills, and our minds usually jump from one idea to the next an extremely rapid pace.
One of the problems 7’s often encounter is because of their ability to learn new skills so rapidly and their fear of being trapped, they frequently don’t know which paths to pursue. (This is definitely something I have struggled with!)
Two of fears 7’s have include fear of being trapped or deprived and in pain. We long to to satisfied, content, and have our needs met. The part about our fears that really resonates with me is our fear of being trapped. If you are a 7, you know this fear to be crippling.
If we are being completely honest, it is one of the reasons I chose to become a business owner and help other women pursue their dreams. I really dislike the trapping feeling of working in a traditional 9-5 job.
How has finding out my Enneagram number helped me?
Finding out my Enneagram number has helped me in a number of ways. Its made me realize some of the driving factors behind why I make the decisions I make.
The Enneagram has also helped me realize when I am going a little overboard and listening to my fears. It has acted like a mini, internal alarm clock that starts going off whenever I am moving towards an unhealthy place.
It has also helped me in my marriage. I finally made Joe take the test. I was always curious what his number was but when I figured out he was a 3, a lot of things started to make sense. I could better understand his fears and desires, which has helped me become a better wife.
