I Refuse to Believe This One Lie

“I am too busy.”

I’m calling BS on that.

Something I have recently refused to say and to believe is the lie that I am “too busy”.

What is busy, anyways? Is it spending time scrolling Instagram? Is it spending time reporting to the office, then to rec. league softball, then out for drinks after the game? Is busy responding to emails that don’t need responded to?

Defining “busy” is hard for me and I don’t know what the right answer is. But I do know that we often use “busy” as an excuse not to do the things we should do.

We say we are “too busy” to go to the gym.

We are “too busy” to schedule a date night with our spouse.

We are “too busy” to do the things that bring us joy.

We are “too busy” to try a new hobby, or start a new business, or to eat healthy.

If we are too busy to do the things that we are supposed to be doing or too busy to do the things we want to be doing… then what are we actually doing with our time? What is it that fills up our schedules and prevents us from living a life we actually want?

So, how have I stopped believing this lie?

I know that I consciously say yes to the things that are on my schedule. Therefore, I am the only person responsible for not having the time to do the things I want.

I know that I consciously say yes to the things that are on my schedule. Therefore, I am the only person responsible for not having the time to do the things I want.

This is a tough truth to swallow but once you realize this; you have all the POWER! You have the power to clear your schedule, you have the power to say no to the things that keep you “too busy”, and yes to the things you want to do.

Recently, I have found this trick so empowering. It has really changed my thinking around being “busy” and has allowed me to take a good look my schedule and how I plan my day and my time.
